This form of study can be effective for reinforcing skills that have been learned previously in class, however the ability for a computer program to actually teach mathematics effectively is determined by whether the student is self-motivated and has developed the skills of independent study. As many parents will understand, expecting a young person to sit at a computer and teach themselves maths using a software program has serious limitations.
Examples of interactive online tuition include mathwizz.com and Carol Vorderman’s site themathsfactor.com, both of which are only appropriate for primary aged students. The best example for secondary age pupils in our opinion is Conquer Maths.
There are many FREE interactive online maths games that can be found on the BBC website (Maths File) or at this site (Coxhoe Primary).
Testimonials
“Thank you very much for your help, you really boosted Nick’s confidence and his results. He got a C in his GCSE Maths. Even with your help he found the whole GCSE experience a struggle and so we are convinced that he would not have got a C without Maths Doctor. What seemed expensive at the time now feels like money well spent. We would be happy to recommend you and please feel free to give my phone number to any prospective clients. “
