Do not ask a student or parent for any more personal information than is necessary – your approach should be friendly but the emphasis must be on professionalism.

Request that the lesson be conducted in a central family room, such as a dining room or lounge, and do not agree to carry out the lesson in a child’s bedroom under any circumstances, even if it contains a study area.

Make sure that the doors of the room in which the lesson takes place are left open at all times and that a parent/guardian can easily access the room at their will.

Insist that a responsible adult be on the premises whilst the lessons are taking place.

Do not provide the student with any personal contact details outside of Maths Doctor (for example details of Facebook accounts) or phone numbers – contact details should be given to the parent/guardian only.

If at any time you feel uncomfortable for any reason during a lesson, you must report this to the Maths Doctor Child Protection Officer* immediately so we can advise you on the next steps to take. It is also advisable to discuss any concerns with the parent/guardian straight away.

Should you have any suspicions about the wellbeing of a child whom you are tutoring, you must report these immediately to the Maths Doctor Child Protection Officer* so that we can advise you and take any necessary action.

*The Child Protection Officer is Stephanie Habens.
