Maths Doctor fully recognises its responsibilities for child protection and the five main elements to our policy are:

  1. Ensure we practice safe recruitment by checking the suitability and backgrounds of staff who work with children.
  2. Provide training and guidance for tutors to ensure they work within a professional code of conduct and behave in accordance with the guidelines that are set by the Maths Doctor Child Protection Officer. (Stephanie Habens 02071931871)
  3. Develop and implement procedures to monitor, identify and report cases, or suspected cases, of inappropriate behaviour by tutors.
  4. Educate and support students and parents about what is appropriate behaviour for tutors, and ensure they have someone at Maths Doctor they can contact if they feel a tutor has not behaved appropriately.
  5. Establish a safe environment in which children can learn and develop.

We acknowledge the procedures set out by the Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB) and take account of guidance issued by the Department of Education to:

  • Ensure we have a designated senior person for child protection.
  • Ensure every member of staff knows the name of the designated senior person responsible for child protection and their role.
  • Ensure all staff are aware of the Maths Doctor code of conduct and child protection guidelines.
  • Ensure that parents have an understanding that the responsibility for ensuring child protection is a joint effort and that they play a crucial supporting role in managing and monitoring tutors’ behaviour.
  • Develop effective links with relevant agencies and cooperate as required with their enquiries regarding child protection matters.
  • Ensure safe recruitment practices are always followed.
